THE '10'S

We've only just begun and, at this point, things are looking good.  Always the trailblazer, it is up to you to show us all how good sixty can be.

So Happy 60th dear friend.  It has been a pleasure and honor to have you in our lives.  I still have many pictures that I will be saving for when I crank out the Happy 70th Bobby card.

STACY'S Wedding

THE TURN OF THE CENTURY

People sometimes grow quite annoyed that I can find positives in a whole lot of negatives but, that's just what I do.  If you take the negatives from this decade you wonder how we ever survived the first ten years at the turn of the century.

Sure there were horrific world events, personal crisises and the untimely deaths of some pretty incredible parents.  Way too close together in that span of ten years.  However, we were in our fifties and strong enough to go on.

I'll always remember these years for these bad things and for all the wonderful things in between.  We saw our children grow up, get married (we still have many of these weddings to look forward to) and for you and Linda, grandchildren.

The good of the 2000's certainly outweighed the bad.

THE NINETIES

The nineties can be best summed up as the decade we all turned 40.  With that being said we know it was a turning point in our lives.  Our fun times became soccer games, Halloween costumes and what ever else our kids were in to.

Sure we still found time to get the gang together and party in more subdued ways but, our main focus was watching our children grow.  I think you will agree with me that these were some wonderful years but truly the ones where we really grew up.

I can't leave the nineties without a big shout out to Melanie, Gary Jobe and Deborah and all the joy they gave us.

THE EIGHTIES

What a swift transition from footloose and fancy free to the beginning of our lives today.  Evenings went from "where's the party" to "we need diapers".  Rentals became mortgages.  Our "wheels" were strollers and everyone wore a seat belt.

Jobs were no longer a dime a dozen, we were approaching 30 so, it was time to settle down.  We did the best we could with that one but, the good times continued to roll.  The eighties were a personal favorite of mine as there was so much to look forward to, mistakes could be corrected because we still had plenty of time.  Plus, Ronald Reagan was President for almost the entire decade.

Through thick and thin, and miles between, we shared these years as we did the last ones.

THE SEVENTIES

I only knew you for that last half of the decade that will always be one remembered as "you had to be there"....  By 1980 I knew you as well as I do now.  How could you not know someone you were with all the time, shared the same ideals and a gut feeling that this person is in it with you for life?
I may be naive but, I'm pretty sure any story we could tell about our escapades in the '70's would shock most people.  I've since gathered that the majority didn't come close to doing what we did.  The stories are best not put into writing for obvious reasons.  They will forever be in our hearts and minds.  Considering what these stories are, it is amazing that we still have hearts and minds.

Of course the '70's will be remembered as a time of graduations, marriages, friendships and the metamorphosis from teenagers to adults.  And, in the case of you and Linda.....children.
It was the time of great music, gas guzzling cars, shag carpet and leisure suits.  We never dreamed that in our lifetime we would have phones other than the push button ones.  We had no idea that one we would one day have computers in our homes, listen to hours of music without a turntable or cassette and, that we would be able to lock a car door without a key.
We were there when shopping malls began.  We had never heard of Wal-Mart or Target.  There were hardware stores instead of Lowe's and Home Depot.  We could smoke anywhere we pleased.  We could hug a loved one goodbye the moment they stepped on a plane.  The only movies we saw were at theatre.  We had never tasted Mexican food.

I think this was the perfect decade to make the transition from "wild and crazy" to "calmed down a bit".

SEVENTIES PEOPLE, PLACES AND THINGS:  Corliss Street, Patty Gruppies, Griddle Cake, mooning,  Colonial Apartments, Sam/Dottie & "Thang", Top of the Mart, evenings beginning at 11 pm, knocking on doors in our birthday suits and, of course, the "trips" we took.

I KNOW BOBBY LEE SELLS

Technically, I know Bobby Lee Sells through marriage but, I knew him a bit before that.  I remember the day I first met him......March 5, 1974.  He, like everyone else close to me, will not be surprised that I can recall this date.  It was the day life as I knew it changed forever.

I certainly can't give Bobby all the credit for this new and wonderful life I've had since I was 19 years old but, as I think about it, he appeared in some form every step of the way.  In these 38 years he has not only become the friend that I run to but, without a doubt, part of my family.

So, I will share pictures and memories to celebrate his 60th birthday.  The pictures are way too few as the 70's were not a time of digital cameras and we were always way too busy to pose.  The memories have to be edited to a PG-13 status as we are Grandparents now.
